Wedding day portraits | In a separate location on the wedding day!| and is it a good idea?

Can you leave the wedding guests and go to a stunning location for portraits on your wedding day and not disrupt the day!? I personally think you can – if you time it correctly! It can be the most relaxing part of the day and pictured below is what can be achieved in a small amount of time. We had so much fun shooting this and it was a rare moment to watch the sun set over beautiful Dartmoor National Park and think about the joyous day that has been had and the evening party to come.

What a perfect way to reflect on your wedding day and get some beautiful photos in a different location.

A Dartmoor Sunset couple shoot

This location was just a little hop, skip and climb from their wedding venue Colehayes Park near Bovey Tracey and the couple were super keen to get some sunset shots on Dartmoor on the actual day of the wedding. They also really enjoyed the time away from the wedding party, which gave them space to reflect on the day.

Depending on your timings for the day and the location of your ceremony and reception this can sometimes be earlier in the day, maybe on route to the reception.

Personally I would advise against heading off too far in-between the drinks and canapés time, as this is precious mingling time and guests will notice. If a shoot can be done in the morning as a first look, like below, or after the wedding breakfast that is the perfect time to do this.

Haldon Belvedere Tower first look

A first look on a crisp winters morning at the gorgeous Haldon Belvedere tower which was very close to the couple’s wedding venue The Great Barn in Higher Ashton.

What a fabulous idea for a first look shoot before the ceremony and especially in winter time where the light will disappear quickly. It took a little planning but was so worth it…I know Vicky and Sam loved the fun first look they planned at the romantic tower. Some precious time before the ceremony and festivities of the day.

A post ceremony Moorland shoot

Bryony and Greg planned a little excursion after their gorgeous Church ceremony to head to Dartmoor while all the guests were travelling to their reception venue Humber Barn. Have a think what is close by to your ceremony location or reception venue and we can organise a little shoot / drive by on your way to the reception.

And if this isn’t possible on the day we can always arrange a shoot before the day or after…check out these gorgeous pre wedding shoots for some inspiration.
