Great location for musician portraits in Devon | Sunrise beach shoot

This is one of my favourites from last year plus it was at sunrise on the beach in Devon, where better to be in July.

Jo got in contact last year wanting an image for the cover of her new EP…. She had a clear idea of what she wanted and actually painted the idea and emailed me the painting. How awesome is that! She wanted a clear beach scene portrait with lots of space around the image. Her concept was, in her words……….

”I need around 5 or 6 amazing shots to set the campaign on fire. It’s called “The Summer is Dead EP”. I want the cover and artwork to scream “i came to this beach to blow it up”.

This chick is super creative and always has a project on the go. A true creative with ideas always bubbling away in her brain all the time and an absolute dream to work with as she has so many ideas.

We had a great discussion about her ideas, locations and times of the day. We chose sunrise for the dramatic lighting plus no-one would be on the beach at that time in summer – because it’s bloody early. I set my alarm at 2:30 am! I think sunrise is about 4:30 am in July and we chose Strete gate beach. If you know the beach you know that it’s possibly the longest we have in South Devon just along the coast from Slapton Sands. Lots of space for the image that she wanted, easy parking for lots of outfit changes.

I was super excited to see the finished image as an EP cover and lots of the other images used and re-imagined by the artist for content for the other songs.

Content creating for a creative is possibly the best fun you can have while officially working/not working.
